Oliphaunt is a poem from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, describing legendary beasts of the same name. Printed in two stages on pre-damped Moulin du Gue paper, the metal type was printed first and the paper kept damp while the ink dried. The following day the wooden type was 'blind embossed', or pulled without ink.
Set and printed by hand by Richard Ardagh and Graham Bignell at New North Press in a limited edition of 100. Available to buy exclusively from Tolkien.co.uk
