R Newbold is a diffusion line of Paul Smith sold in Japan. Having been commissioned to design a t-shirt range for Spring/Summer '05 collection, I was invited to design the catalogue for S/S '08.
The theme of the collection was 'British summer festival' which guided the majority of the design decisions. The shoot set-up was kept simple; a mud-stained canvas backdrop and a carpet of very realistic fake grass. Models were asked to react to imaginary scenarios on top of which illustrators Hanne Barr, French and Tim Hill were invited to create fantastical interpretations. The book has canvas covered craft board covers with trimmed edges and an embossed wristband title and is bound in a variety of neon-coloured ring binds.
